Birmingham goes further than most opt-outs: alongside not enabling Turnitin's feature (stated July 2023, updated January 2025), its guidance says using any AI-detection tool on student work is not allowable. That is a rule for staff, and it means no detector score — Turnitin's or anyone else's — should ever appear in a Birmingham misconduct case.
Students here still answer to the university's academic-integrity rules on AI use itself. If a concern is raised, it will rest on the work and your account of writing it, so the evidence that matters is your process: notes, drafts, version history.
