How does the AI image detector work?
The free check runs Winston AI's image classifier, which rates how much the image looks like the output of an AI image generator. The forensic report adds Winston's forensic analysis: error level analysis, noise residuals, edge anomalies, the camera sensor pattern and the file's metadata, with a written explanation.
Is the result proof that an image is AI-generated?
No. It is a signal for review. Detectors can be wrong, especially on screenshots, heavily compressed, resized or edited images. Use the result alongside where the image came from and any other evidence you have.
Can it spot deepfakes?
It looks for signs of AI generation and editing in a still image. It does not analyse faces specifically, and it does not check video or audio, so it is not a deepfake video or face-swap detector.
Which images can I check?
One still JPG, PNG or WebP image at a time, up to 4 MB and at least 256 × 256 pixels. Animated images, GIFs, SVGs and video are not supported. On an iPhone, photos are converted to JPG when you choose them.
How much does it cost?
One free check a day in each browser, no sign-up needed. A forensic report uses one image check: £3.99, or 5 for £15.95. If a report can't finish, the image check is returned automatically.
What happens to my image?
Genutext deletes your image straight after the check. If you're signed in, your history keeps a summary: the results and the written conclusion, never the image. The image is analysed by our provider, Winston AI, under its own terms.
