AI text detector

Free AI Detector for UK Students and Educators

AI detection that starts a review, not a verdict: check English prose for AI-writing signals, understand the result, and keep a person responsible for every conclusion.

    Free first pass

See the document-level signal before creating an account

The public preview is deliberately narrow: it offers a quick AI-only result without presenting that result as proof.

    English text from 300 characters

Paste continuous English prose. Very short samples cannot be submitted because they provide too little context for the current workflow.

    Up to 350 words

The free preview analyses a short sample and returns one overall AI score and label. It does not include sentence-level results.

    Two previews per day

The public scan is rate-limited by a privacy-preserving hash of the network address used for the request.

    AI detection only

Plagiarism source matching is available after sign-in as an optional mode in a paid scan, not in the free preview.

    Interpretation

    What Genutext's current labels mean

The displayed percentage is an AI-writing signal on Genutext's scale. It is not the probability that a person cheated.

    Current Genutext AI score labels
    Displayed rangeLabelResponsible reading
0–29Likely HumanThe analysed text showed fewer AI-like signals, but a low score does not prove human authorship.
30–59Mixed ContentThe result is not conclusive. Review the highlighted passages, writing process, task and permitted assistance.
60–100Likely AI GeneratedThe text showed stronger AI-like signals. Treat this as a reason to review, not as a disciplinary finding.

    Data handling

Submitted text is processed, then discarded

Genutext is designed so the writing itself is not retained in the scan history.

The service sends submitted text to its analysis provider to produce the result. Genutext stores scan metadata and score summaries for account history, but not the submitted text or the detailed passage breakdown.

The detailed paid result is temporarily held in browser session storage. An emailed report is the option for keeping a full copy. Review the privacy policy before submitting student work, confidential material or personal data.

    Common questions

    AI detector FAQ

    Is this AI detector free?
Yes. The free preview checks 300 characters to 350 words of English text once per day, with no sign-up. Creating a free account includes your first full scan of up to 3,000 words.
How accurate is the AI detector?
No AI detector is 100% accurate, including this one. Genutext publishes its methodology and limitations and presents every score as a signal for human review, not proof of authorship.
Do I need to sign up to check my text?
No. The on-page preview runs without an account. An account unlocks full-length scans, sentence-level results, PDF upload, optional plagiarism checking and an emailed report.
Is my text stored or used to train AI models?
No. Submitted text is processed for the report and discarded. It is not stored or used for training.
Will my score here match Turnitin's score?
No. Turnitin uses its own model, thresholds and text-eligibility rules, so no third-party detector can predict a Turnitin result. Use this check to understand your own writing, not to chase a number.
