Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.
Turnitin's AI model is proprietary and runs only inside institutional accounts. It reports the share of qualifying prose its model flags, suppresses scores of 1–19% as an asterisk, and applies its own text-eligibility rules. Genutext runs a different engine (Winston AI) that reports differently — so the numbers will not match, and no third-party tool's will.
What a pre-check can honestly do: show you which sentences of your draft read as AI-like, so you can quote properly, cite deliberately and rewrite formulaic passages in your own voice before anyone else reads it. That insight transfers across tools even though scores don't.

Read the flagged passages, not the number
Quotations, definitions, formulaic sections and templated writing are flagged innocently all the time. Identify which of your passages carry the signal and why.

Rewrite in your own voice
Vary sentence structure, add concrete examples from your own reading, and make quotations explicit with citations. This improves the essay — the score is a side effect.

Keep your drafts and version history
Whatever any detector says, your writing process is your protection. Save versions as you revise; they are the evidence that decides disputes.

Never use a 'humaniser'
Tools that rewrite text to evade detection convert an innocent situation into a policy breach, and detectors increasingly flag their output anyway. If you used AI beyond what your module permits, the honest fix is rewriting the work, not laundering it.

Many UK universities have publicly opted out. Your pre-submission anxiety may be about a report your university never generates.
